The papers in this volume are based on lectures given at the IMA workshop on the Parallel Solution of PDE during June 9-13, 1997. The numerical solution of partial differential equations has been of major importance to the development of many technologies and has been the target of much of the development of parallel computer hardware and software. Parallel computer offers the promise of greatly increased performance and the routine calculation of previously intractable problems. This volume contains papers on the development and assessment of new approximation and solution techniques that can take advantage of parallel computers. It will be of interest to applied mathematicians, computer scientists, and engineers concerned with investigating the state of the art and future directions in numerical computing. Topics include domain decomposition methods, parallel multi-grid methods, front tracking methods, sparse matrix techniques, adaptive methods, fictitious domain methods, and novel time and space discretizations. Applications discussed include fluid dynamics, radiative transfer, solid mechanics, and semiconductor simulation.

This text clearly presents a multitude of variables that potentially affect the results of neuropsychological tests. THe chapter authors, all noted experts in their respective fields, begin with a general discussion of neuropsychological constructs known to impact performance on neuropsychological tests, including demographics, personality, and sociocultural factors. They then present an empirical approach to assessment. They focus on the disorders under discussion (not solely the tests that might be used in diagnosis) and reflect the contributions the field has made to detecting differences in disorders that have neurological underpinnings. The disorders reviewed include dementia, HIV-related syndromes, adult seizure disorders, toxic exposure, mild to severe brain injury, and chronic fatigue syndrome.

Several approaches, such as microarray hybridization, have become extremely popular tools for specialists in biochemistry and biomedicine, while the potential of many other advantageous techniques seems to be underestimated. Written by an international team of authors, this book details the current state-of-art in hybridization techniques. Coverage includes experimental protocols along with comprehensive and detailed method descriptions.

The Dynamics program and handbook allows the reader to explore nonlinear dynamics and chaos by the use of illustrated graphics. It is suitable for research and educational needs. This new edition allows the program to run 3 times faster on the processes that are time consuming. Other major changes include: There will be an add-your-own equation facility. This means it will be unnecessary to have a compiler. PD and Lyanpunov exponents and Newton method for finding periodic orbits can all be carried out numerically without adding specific code for partial derivatives. The program will support color postscript. New menu system in which the user is prompted by options when a command is chosen. This means that the program is much easier to learn and to remember in comparison to current version. Mouse support is added. The program will be able to use the expanded memory available on modern PC's. This means pictures will be higher resolution. There are also many minor chan ce much of the source code will be available on the web, although some of ges such as zoom facility and help facility. Due to limited spa it willr emain on the disk so that the unix users still have to purchase the book. This will allow minor upgrades for Unix users.

Abiotic stresses is a major limiting factor in plant growth. Drought is a serious problem that affects many regions of the world, decreasing the productivity of crops worldwide. Cotton is the most valuable textile fiber crop and second oilseed crop in the world. Agriculture is the largest sector of Pakistan's economy contributing 21% GDP. Fiber yield and lint quality is limited by drought stress after bloom. In the present work by using different molecular biological techniques six drought responsive transcripts and three full length genes have been identified from desi cotton. Their expression is also checked which showed significant over expression of these genes in drought stressed leaves as compared to control. Two genes were transformed into commercial cultivar of cotton. This work has a great impact on economy of Pakistan and will help to develop drought tolerant cotton varieties. It is need of time to develop drought tolerant crops as water shortage is becoming the major problem for the whole world.

Gian-Carlo Rota was one of those rare mathematicians who made major contributions to several areas of mathematics. Presented in the first part of this volume are reprints of his papers in analysis, which were written at the beginning of his career. These papers on differential equations, operator theory, ergodic theory, and other subjects have a continuing and pervasive influence. Reprints of his papers on convexity and probability theory are presented in the second part of the work. These were written towards the end of his career and contain many ideas that have yet to be fully developed. Comprehensive commentaries are included in every chapter. These survey articles detail work inspired by Rota's papers and also include discussions of many unsolved problems. As is customary with Rota's writings, the papers included in the volume – some published here for the first time – contain many fresh and unexpected ideas for further research. Thus, this volume will be of interest to both experts and beginners in the above-mentioned fields. Contributors: J. Dhombres, P.L. Duren, W.N. Everitt, D.A. Klain, J.P.S. Kung, A. Ramsay, M.M. Improved diagnostic sophistication is increasingly enabling neurologists to differentiate between Parkinson's disease and other atypical parkinsonism (AP), such as multiple system atrophy, progressive supranuclear palsy, corticobasal degeneration, and dementia with Lewy bodies. The Handbook of Atypical Parkinsonism is a comprehensive survey of all diseases of this category, providing an authoritative guide to the recognition, diagnosis and management of these disorders. Each chapter follows a common structure, commencing with the full basic science of the disorder under consideration, followed by descriptions of the clinical picture and differential diagnosis. Subsequent chapters discuss current and future therapeutic approaches to these difficult conditions. Written and edited by leading practitioners in the field, clinicians in neurology and other specialties will find this book essential to the understanding and diagnosis of this complex group of disorders.
