Essential Plant Pathology, Second Edition is completely updated with color throughout and is packaged with a new DVD that includes more extras for students and professors alike. The first edition of this best selling textbook was carefully reviewed by subject matter specialists and plant pathology course instructors to help update the content, especially some of the quickly changing molecular aspects of host-parasite interactions. This new edition includes an important new section to teach students about gene silencing using RNA interference.

The authors did not stray from their highly successful original approach. Imagine a plant pathology textbook that introduces and teaches all the key concepts of the science and is readable in a single semester by each and every student in your class. Essential Plant Pathology achieves that goal because it was written with students in mind.

This inviting new edition is written specifically to the introductory plant pathology course level by award-winning educators, Gail Schumann and Cleo D Arcy. The book is reader-friendly with important terms and concepts clearly identified. Special Did you know? boxes will spark student interest by providing cultural and historical facts about plant diseases and every chapter will guide students to recommended resources, study questions, Words to Know, Internet research exercises, and DVD exercises.

The new second edition text comes packaged with a dynamic DVD that works hand-in-hand with the popular APSnet Education Center and provides students and their professors with an engaging way to learn and teach plant pathology. This DVD contains many important supplementary materials that can be used without internet access, including: expanded and revised identification exercises, new APSnet Education Center peer-reviewed instructional materials, and new web links for each chapter.

The DVD is a key part of the book because it includes links to all of the enrichment materials from the APSnet Education Center, APSnet feature articles, and links to recommended websites. These are used for the exercises at the end of each chapter. This allows students to learn about diseases and topics of specific interest to them. Also, there are identification exercises for most of the chapters on the DVD. The DVD also includes the illustrated glossary with photos, diagrams and many of the definitions which are not included in the printed version in the book. For instructors, there are high resolution versions of all of the text images.

A printed version of the glossary on the DVD has been added to the textbook which includes synonyms, antonyms, and related terms that will aid students in learning the plant pathology vocabulary. In addition, Appendix 2, which provides disease examples, has been revised to add more tropical crops and diseases for use in chapter exercises.

What students say:
• “I am in my last semester and carry this book (and your Clot or Bleed book) wherever I go!!!!”
• “I think it is absolutely genius! This is so much better than reading through a dense textbook.”
• “You strike the perfect balance between detail and convenience. I will definitely use this to study for boards.”
• “Your book on hematopathology is excellent. My pathology exam here in Sicily is on February 25 and it helped very much.”
• “This is great. I’m using it as one of my resources for hemepath rotation….really useful. Thanks!!”

About the book:
The Complete (but not obsessive) Hematopathology Guide is a thorough but not-too-detailed study guide that covers all the information students need to know for a typical pathology course (and for boards). It begins with an introduction to hematology (with clinical pearls and laboratory tests), lays out a framework for understanding the differences between the big groups of disorders, then delves into the main diseases (anemia, benign leukocytoses, leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma).

What’s inside:
• 113 pages and over 27,000 words of essential hematopathology content
• 40 nice, clear, perfect-color photomicrographs (no blurry, obscure, or black-and-white crap)
• 13 little essays (called “Things to make you look smart”) that answer typical questions attendings will ask you on your clinical rotations
• A clear understanding of the 4 differentiating features of the leukemias (acute vs. chronic, myeloid vs. lymphoid)
• A review of the key morphologic features of all the white cells (and their precursors)
• Complete lists of the major immunophenotypic markers, cytochemical stains, and cytogenetic changes used in the diagnosis of leukemias and lymphomas
• 40 study questions (and answers) addressing disease features most likely to be covered on exams

Bottom line:
The Complete (But Not Obsessive) Hematopathology Guide reviews the basic foundations of hematopathology and the essential details of all the important diseases with just the right level of detail: all the right stuff, none of the fluff.

Medicolegal investigation of death is the most crucial and significant function of the medical examiner within the criminal justice system. The medical examiner is primarily concerned with violent, sudden, unexpected, and suspicious deaths and is responsible for determining the cause and manner of death, identifying the deceased, determining the approximate time of death and injury, collecting evidence from the body, issuing the death certificate, and documenting these events through an official autopsy report. The basis of the medicolegal investigation is forensic pathology.

Written for both medical and investigative professionals, Forensic Pathology, Second Edition presents an overview of medicolegal investigative systems. Completely updated, the book examines investigative techniques and procedures that lead to obtaining accurate conclusions of death by homicide, accident, or suicide.

Handbook of Forensic Pathology, Second Edition is an up-to-date, concise manual illustrating all core aspects of modern forensic pathology. This edition retains the outline format of the original, which allows for quick access and rapid assimilation. Written in no-nonsense, easily understandable language, this precise and thorough yet compact resource contains extensively detailed entries from two of the nation’s foremost authorities on gunshot wounds and forensic pathology. With numerous instructional charts and diagrams and color photographs, it organizes a wealth of instructional and immediately applicable information.

Features of the second edition include a chapter on nursing home death, added information on gunshot residue, and research on tasers, pepper spray, and excited delirium syndrome. Introducing medicolegal casework and documentation, this book explains protocols for the collection and recovery of evidence and DNA analysis and lists factors used to determine time of death and identity of the deceased. It identifies the natural causes of death in children and adults before devoting the remaining chapters to the myriad of non-natural causes including homicide, suicide, accidental, and undetermined.

With meticulous detail and instant access to extensive information, this handbook is an indispensable tool for forensic pathologists, law enforcement, and legal personnel, as well as pathologists in training.
