BioEdit is a biological sequence alignment editor written for Windows 95/98/NT. A rich, intuitive multiple document interface with many convenient features makes alignment, manipulation and viewing of sequences relatively quick and easy on your desktop computer. Several sequence manipulation and analysis options and fully-automated links to local and WWW-based anaylsis programs facilitate an integrated working environment which allows you to view, align and analyze sequences from a single application with simple point-and-click operations.

Hi Dr Tom,

My name is Greiciane, I“m a PhD Student in Brazil. I“m having some problems using Bioedit because Windows/Mac incompatibilities. I generate my data in Mac, then I copy it to windows where I use Bioedit. But, as I need to send this file to another person that uses Mac, he cannot open it files. Does Bioedit modify the files? Do you have a suggestion to solve it?

Hi

The Bioedit version 7.0.9.0 is working properly in XP and Vista. Try this version or u update to new version

I encounter the following problem using BioEdit: when I try to translate my gene sequence into protein sequence it does not always work. Sometimes it shows that " Access violation at address (some number) in module 'BIOEDIT.EXE.' Write of address (some other number)"
I like this program very much, could you please give me any suggestion and if this problem occurs for some specific mistake ?

Bioedit working under windows xp soon...



I obtained permission from authors to distribute an archive containing BioEdit, Sequence Manipulation Suite2 and clustalX.

I added a "script" to modify BioEdit to allow clustalw running under windows XP from BioEdit, and i updated bookmarks.

As soon as i put it on the web (in a few days), i add the link on this forum.

I have made my own version of bioedit, from v5.09, i have replaced clustal by the 1.83 version to run under windows xp (it works in any windows version), and i have added the windows version of clustal 1.83 too, i put "dna for windows" in accessory applications to allow upper/lowercase manipulation in sequence and translation of uppercase only. I have updated bookmarks, add shortcuts and "sequence manipulation suite" javascript tools for DNA, all in one installation program.

I cannot put it on the web because i didn't manage to ask software authors (i.e tom's Hall bioedit) if i can distribute this "modified" version with their permission. But...

And sorry if my english is not very good...

I'm a fan of Bioedit - very useful and rich program. Thanks to Tom. Probably Tom will find time and fund again for upgrade.

Install problem: On Windows XP Professional, setup.exe hangs silently, as seen in Task Manager. Tried using Win95, Win98, NT - compatibility modes with no luck. I'd appreciate any suggestions!
