Laser capture microdissection (LCM) is a new technology originated by NIH through an intensive collaboration between bioengineering and cancer pathology groups in NICHD, DCRT, BEIP (NCRR; now ORS) and NCI (Emmert-Buck, et al., Science 274:998-1001,1996; Bonner, et al., Science 278:1481-3,1997).
